Refreshing Spinach Matcha Smoothie

Jump to Recipe

I have never tried a smoothie with green tea in it. Let alone any caffeine or tea. But this blend turned out delicious! I’m a big fan of anything tropical, which I think most people are. I love vacationing on beaches, soaking my feet in the warm sand while taking a dip in the ocean. So, likewise, are all the tropical fruits such as Coconut, Pineapple, Mango, Passion fruit, etc. There is just something very refreshing about these ingredients.

When the good people from ‘Matcha Kari’ approached me to use their product for recipe development, I instantly knew I wanted to incorporate Matcha powder into a refreshing drink!

What is matcha?

Matcha is the finely ground powder of specially grown green tea leaves, majorly in East Asia. These tea leaves are raised with so much care and in the shade until they are ready to be harvested and plucked. As a result, it has a vibrant green color, resulting from the high chlorophyll levels. It has been in the Japanese tradition for years now, and they use it for their traditional tea ceremonies.

Matcha has a slightly bitter taste and is quite an acquired taste. Its high antioxidant levels make the consumption of matcha relatively healthy for our bodies. Some of its health benefits include ;

  • It may aid in promoting Heart health
  • Protecting the Liver and boosting brain functions.
  • It may help to prevent Cancer.

Thanks to its highly nutritious properties, it is widespread now in the US. Matcha comes in several grades. The quality and taste of this culinary grade matcha ,from matcha kari, is really good.

Ingredients needed for this recipe:

>Baby Spinach: Loaded with Iron, a handful, adds to the goodness of this drink

>Frozen Pineapple: Blends really well with combination for that tropical flavor boost.

>Coconut water: The most hydating and refreshing tropical liquid to add to a smoothie!

>Matcha powder: Good quality organic matcha like this one, makes all the difference.

This will leave you feeling super refreshed and charged ! A great smoothie to make ahead and refridgerate for a day or two in tightly sealed mason jars. Grab a cold glass of this delicious smoothie after a workout or run .
